MEC Downhill 2015

MEC's first downhill resort-ready collection

Story by MEC June 25th, 2015

For the first time MEC has designed a downhill collection created specifically for resort skiers and snowboarders. We’ve translated what we know from making clothing for the backcountry to make a collection for in-bound riders that blends premium waterproof breathable fabrics and refined design elements with features that skiers and boarders love including fully taped seams, helmet compatible hoods, detachable powder skirts and topshelf insulation.

The combination of premium fabrics and thoughtful designs result in lighter, warmer and stronger apparel. We’re proud to provide MEC members a downhill apparel experience that’s the outcome of over 40 years of exploring Canada’s most breathtaking slopes.

The uncompromising quality found in the MEC label downhill collection is unmatched within its price point. The full collection includes jackets, pants, midlayers, baselayers and gear from brands including Helly Hansen, Burton, Solomon and MEC.

• Insulated warm multi-use outerwear
• Moisture-wicking baselayers
• Chalet-ready midlayers

“The insulated MEC Sweet Shot and Syncronis Jackets keep you comfortable on the slopes and while you wait for the chairlift. If you unzip the powder skirt they become streamlined, warm winter jackets - perfect for the urban commute.

MEC SWEET SHOT JACKET (W) / MEC SYNCRONIS JACKET(M), $525: The most premium jackets MEC has ever made. A combination of 850 fill-power DWR-treated diamond quilted down and PrimaLoft Gold synthetic insulation means fewer stops in the lodge to warm-up and more time on the hill.

MEC FINE LINE PANTS (W) / MEC SIDECUT PANTS (M), $185: Synthetic insulation throughout keeps your hard-working legs comfortable when you stop to wait for friends, and thigh vents let you regulate your climate.

MEC COACTION JACKET (W + M), $79-$85: These lightweight multi-use fleeces are the perfect midlayer for cold ski days and act as a great general outerlayer for warmer weather.

HELLY HANSEN WOOL GRAPHIC LONG SLEEVE (W + M), $105: Breathable, warm, and close fitting, this pure merino baselayer is hard to beat. Flatlock stitching keeps it from chaffing, and the allergy neutral, non-itch fabric is comfortable over the long haul.

• Lightweight 3-layer GORE-TEX shell

• Packable, lightweight midlayers

• Moisture-wicking baselayers

“The MEC Backbeyond and Oreithya Jackets were designed to be worn with layers, a style backcountry skiers are familiar with. These jackets are lightweight and packable so they won’t get in the way when hiking up a ridge or when the sun comes out late in the season and you want to pack them away.”

- Spring Harrison, MEC Designer

MEC OREITHYA JACKET (W) / MEC BACKBEYOND JACKET (M), $350: For experience-hungry skiers whose bread and butter is lift-accessed terrain – but who venture out into the backcountry from time to time. The 3-layer GORE-TEX is packable, totally waterproof and provides easy stretch for a full range of motion.

MEC OREITHYA PANTS (W) / MEC BACKBEYONDPANTS (M), $325: Totally waterproof with a slopestyle cut yet packable enough for backcountry missions, these hardshell pants are a versatile choice for go-anywhere riders.

MEC OBSESSION HOODIE (W + M), $146 - $165: With a light soft shell fabric covering the insulation and stretch panels through the back and underarms, the Obsession offers venting that won‘t shut down your ability to move. The Obsession also looks amazing on its own.

MEC T3 ZIP‑T (M), $75: When you‘re chugging up steep switchbacks, the lightweight fabric offers excellent moisture management. The inner side rapidly wicks moisture away from the body, and the outer yarns disperse it for quick evaporation.

HELLY HANSEN WARM FREEZE LONG SLEEVE (W), $95: Made of HH® Warm, a blend of merino wool and polypropylene, with superior insulating and wicking properties.
